The History of San Vivaldo
Vivaldo Stricchi was born in Tuscany in the year 1260. Born of a wealthy family, he exchanged luxury to live the life of a pilgrim. He was committed to helping others, including caring for lepers. San Vivaldo died in the year 1320, after spending the last 20 years of his life living in the woods. The latter part of his life was spent near an abandoned church, which was rebuilt in the year 1350 in his honor. In the 1500's the church was completely rebuilt, thus becoming a convent for the Franciscan Friars. Originally, there were thirty-four chapels embellished with terra cotta by anonymous artists from Della Robbia School. At present, there are seventeen gracefully designed chapels remaining. The convent is geographically configured similar to that of Jerusalem.San Vivaldo Cared
